USB Device Not Recognized

Over the weekend, I transferred several photos off of my digital camera onto my laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1545, running Vista. For some reason, now when I try plugging my camera in (via USB) to transfer photos off the camera, I get a pop up bubble saying "USB Device Not Recognized". I thought it might be a bad USB cord but when I tried to use another USB device, I got the same pop up bubble.

I checked the Device Manager and nothing seems to be out of sorts, except for when I try turn on the USB device, and an "unknown device" shows up on the list.

Is there something I can do to restore the use of my USB ports that were working just less than a week ago??

Thank you!

We have two new win7 boxes on a 2k3 domain. The users have mapped drives with mapping being done in the logon scripts using the net use command. All drives mapped to the dc work flawlessly, however the drive mapped to the printer using the command net use Y: \\192.168.254.200\File_share fail with the error 'The account is not authorized to log in from this station.'

All other workstations are XP SP3 boxes and have no problems mapping drives to the printer. The win7 boxes also have no trouble printing to the printer.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

i am attempting to go back to school. but i am trying to find out which would be best for me. i live in the hampton roads area of virginia. i could go to school at old dominion university, but they do not work with professionals to well, and it is hard to work my work schedule around work. not to mention there degrees do not match up that closely what i want to do. then i was looking at strayer university and found they are closer and they work better with working professionals. now the question is who would an employer look more heavily at, old dominion or strayer. that way i can look at little more closely at where i will go to school. any hiring IT managers input as to whether you would hire someone that went to school at a university like strayer. all input is a big help.

I have a HP nx6020 laptop which was showing signs of hard disk failure, so I bought another to install.

However, after installation, the hard drive refuses to boot, I get a quick message flashing up on the screen saying Media Test Failure - Check Cable. This comes up even after after I removed the drive. When I try to boot from CD to run setup it says there is no hard drive installed.

I know the drive is correctly installed as I'm using the correct adapter to fit it inside and it fits snugly and securely.

I have tried other drives (though they're older ones) - with the same result.

I can't see how a laptop which worked fine (despite the unreliable hard drive) has now become a laptop which won't accept a brand new hard drive.

Can you give me any advice ?

Regards,
Julia

My question is about javascript &/or flashplayer 10.

Hello. I have an Acer Aspire One notebook. It's Windows Xp Home Edition, Windows version 5.1, service pack 3. It does have system restore, manufacturer installed, but manufacturer tells me that the discs on this little pc are to small to engage that feature. My problem is this; If I try to open a page with active video content, a message appears saying that I either have javascript turned off, or I need to download the latest flashplayer. Now, I went through internet explorer to tools. to security, to custom only to find my javascript is enabled, under active scripting. I Also already have the latest flashplayer; 10 and flashplayer 10 plugin. I've also tried to reboot my computer under the 'last known good configuration that worked'... But to no avail. I'm not a computer geek(Though I wish I was), but I have a moderate understanding. I do have the tendency of dabbling with various advanced options, messing with my registry and so on. I've had this pc for 1 1/2 yrs and already had to run the system and restore discs 3(!!) times, because I'd inadvertantly messed with something I shouldn't have, deleted system files, etc... Since the last "reprogramming" I've changed my startup, and enabled/disabled programs under command prompt msconfig. Could this latest tampering be responsible? What else could it be? I've even run 'Dial-a Fix', by the way.. I don't really want to load those recovery discs again, as I just did that 2 months ago! Oh, and I also have iYogi tech support, but most of the time they are either ineffective- always trying to run system restore first(religiously)and when that fails, they actually have to work! And lately I'm finding that I know more than their geeks, which is scary, because they are supposed to be the professionals. I'm hoping You can give me some ideas, 'cause I'm stumped and iYogi's a waste of my time and aggravation. Thank You, Just for taking the time to read this.

I got hit wit a virus the other day, and it got thru my virus software. Eventually, I decided to re-install XP. I had rebuilt this system about a year ago, successfully. This time, however, when I re-installed the operating system, the drivers for the network components, such as the either net controller, did not correctly re-install. I have tried to install them on their own, but with no success. I even uninstalled the eithernet controller, then rebooted to force installation, but the wizard will not find the driver on the install cd. I have tried recovering using backups I have taken, but the restore application says that the backup has unrecognizable data(?).
