Restoring the Show Desktop Icon

Try this:
1. Launch Notepad and type the following:
[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop
2. Save the file as Show Desktop.scf in the Winnt\System32 folder.
3. Right-click the Show Desktop.scf file and click Create Shortcut.
4. Copy the shortcut to the Winnt\System32 folder
5. Rename the shortcut to Desktop.scf
The Show Desktop icon should now automatically appear on the Quick Launch toolbar.
