Forgetting to give credit to others
Over the years I have had several managers that possessed this flaw. I had designed, documented and coded (most of) a record archiving system. After it was successfully implemented in production my manager received a sizable bonus for the design. It was then I learned that my name had been replaced by my manager?s name on all design documents. I was told that this was ?for my own protection? and was reprimanded for making an accusation of theft. I vowed that this would never again happen to me.

Several years latter another manager tried the same kind of thing, even going so far as to release me beforehand. Unfortunately, for the manager, upper management liked the design, which was very similar to AJAX and wanted several new systems created in the same manner. Being unable top reverse engineer the code and with upper management getting impatient the manager had a friend of mine call me at home to ask how it worked with the manager listening in.

What the manager didn?t know was that my friend had called earlier to give me a heads-up as to the manager?s plan. So, when my friend called and asked the question, I responded with a ?No?. Within two weeks upper management fired the manager for being unable to explain how my system worked.

Although now, if the manager still wants to know how it works the information is readily available. All that the manager needs to do is buy my book (http://www.phptr.com/bookstore/product.asp?isbn=0132272679&rl=1). Revenge is sweet and best served cold with a side of onion rings.
