Firewall, &
IE 7
You will have to configure your firewall to allow the interconnection to those and other sites. The 'new' default is set to block just about everything.

Download 'Windows Defender' from Microsoft Downloads page and run a scan of your computer.

gknicks71 - 10/14/06 Thanks for the reply. I disabled the standard windows firewall and the pages still did not work. Is ther more settings than just disable to make it shutoff? How do I allow certain sites to work?

If you are directly connected to the internet, go to a command prompt and type ipconfig /all
It will list your PC's IP address info as well as the DNS servers it is using for name resolution
At the command prompt, type ping www.yahoo.com
If it responds with the IP address for yahoo.com (209.191.93.52) or such, then DNS is working OK and you have something else preventing HTTP traffic from leaving your PC.
You can also try this one to see if port 80 is open on your machine:
telnet www.yahoo.com 80
if you get a blank screen and hitting the enter key a few times results in dashes (-), then port 80 is working
If you get a Connection Failed error, then something is blocking port 80
the previous steps are basic TCP/IP troubleshooting and can be used anytime you have an issue communicating over the internet
1.2.1. Need more info about how you connect to ISP
Why Me Worry? - 10/14/06 Are you doing dialup, DSL using PPPoE, or an always on cable modem connection? Are you using a cable/dsl router and if so, are any firewall options enabled? If you are directly connected to the internet, go to a command prompt and type ipconfig /all
