What to expect in Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1
Takeaway: Here is the new functionality you can expect with the Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1.
Hot on the heels of the initial release of Exchange Server 2007 is the first service pack, which returns to Exchange Server 2007 some key functionality that was not included in the initial release due to lack of time. Service Pack 1 also includes some pretty interesting new functionality. The Service Pack is scheduled to be released in beta this month.
Returning functionality
In some ways, the initial release of Exchange Server 2007 was feature incomplete, and missing functionality on both the administrative and user sides that was present in Exchange Server 2003. Microsoft has indicated that some features were not included in the RTM release due to a lack of time. Exchange Server 2007 is, in many ways, completely rewritten and so features that were a part of old versions needed a lot of reworking in order to make it into Exchange 2007.
Here are some of the items that will be returning to Exchange in Service Pack 1:
- Access to public folders via Outlook Web Access.
- Monthly calendar view in Outlook Web Access.
- The ability to define Rules in Outlook Web Access.
- Deleted item recovery in Outlook Web Access.
- Exchange Management Console-based public folder configuration.
- Exchange Management Console-based POP3 and IMAP4 configuration.
New features
Service Pack 1 also includes some all-new functionality, including:
- Enhanced web services.
- Outlook Web Access support for viewing Office 2007 files.
- An enhanced move-mailbox command that can export and import to and from PST files.
