On the Job Hunt is a web log for IT professionals looking for work. Our current job hunter is Chuck Drobny, an IT consultant seeking a new fulltime job. Two other people are contributing to On the Job Hunt, an executive recruiter and career coach and the owner of a consulting firm, who will provide advice from the perspective of a hiring manager. TechRepublic career editor Judy Mottl will also provide links to TechRepublic articles on job hunting. Get your free TechRepublic membership here. E-mail the web loggers here.

Note: Unless you specifically request otherwise, all e-mail received will be considered eligible for publication in all or part on the web blog.

It looks like things are really starting to fall into place. It must make you feel good.

Confidence and a positive attitude can make the difference between "being qualified" and "being the right person".

The consultant approach for the software company is good from several angles. The person you interviewed with may not be able to make a hiring decision, but it is probably within their authority to bring in a consultant for a few weeks. Getting "in the door" will provide exposure to the real decision maker, as well as provide insight into the company and it's future. It seems like a win-win proposition all around.

The Chamber of Commerce opportunity is interesting. You should see if they promote this or have any type of local press coverage (even print). You might get much more mileage out of it than expected. Are you planning on speaking about Corporate Governance? That would seem like a good topic for this audience.

Hopefully the current consulting engagement is going well. Looking forward to next week's update.
